A success story with EDAG PS know-how: Siemens is intensifying its cooperation with the EDAG Group as a leading global independent engineering company for the automotive industry, in order to drive forward industrial applications of additive manufacturing (AM) and, as a result, make engineering and production processes more efficient. For the mass market, optimized production processes are a key success factor for new materials and technologies.
Consequently, the cooperation with Siemens with the know-how of EDAG PS was significantly extended to the area of production processes. Tailor-made future factory concepts are created so that components developed for additive manufacturing can be efficiently manufactured in large quantities and transferred to series production. The expertise of Siemens in factory automation and digitization with the insights from its own production in the gas turbine sector (Finspang and Worchester UK) together with the know-how of EOS GmbH in the field of process technology in additive manufacturing is an important factor. This results in a continuous digital engineering process chain for AM up to the implementation of a use case.
As a first outcome, the cooperation partners presented the “Next GenSpaceframe 2.0” at the Hannover Messe 2019. This flexible lightweight aluminum structure – a use case from the automotive industry – was developed under the leadership of EDAG and Siemens together with Constellium, Fraunhofer IAPT, Concept Laser and BLM.
Siemens and the EDAG Group are focused on complementing each other more effectively as project-related partners in their respective strengths and positioning themselves as service providers in the future market of the industrial introduction of additive manufacturing for their respective customers. EDAG PS makes an important contribution to this success by providing modern know-how in manufacturing.
